I use Windows 8.1 and have two 1 TB drives configured with Storage Spaces in "Simple" mode. I think you will find HDD speed decreases as you increase the size. Unless you keep adding more and more programs this space requirement will not increase over time. This is lots for also using it as the scratch disk. I use a 128 GB SSD for C: and it currently has nearly 100 GB free. You can get a good idea of how much you will need by using Windows explorer to look at the Properties of your program and system directories. The size of the SSD is dependent on the number of programs you will install. Is this sound the like the best approach?ġ. I dont think scratch disc will be necessary. A pair of three terabyte 7,200rpm drives for storage, RAID configured (if possible-I need to check with Dell).
